Interim management of the development department and recruiting new staff

Keep fundraising on target to meet revenue goal
Prepare the Executive Director for fundraising tasks
Assess the status of the department
Assign, carry out, and supervise departmental tasks
Manage recruiting and hiring a Director of Development and an Assistant Director
Carry out the transition to new leadership in the department

 

Outcome: Fundraising efforts remained on track meeting budgetary targets; Departmental projects completed; Director hired and oriented to the organization.

 

PLANNING

Project:

Facilitating Strategic Planning

 

Tasks:

Articulate the purpose and goals of their strategic planning.
Ensure that the organization is fully prepared to engage in the process.
Review the current status of the organization
Define planning committee members’ roles
Establish a schedule
Gather, analyze, and present essential information
Plan and facilitate retreats and meetings with stakeholders
Assist with establishing priorities and defining strategies
Write the strategic plan
Define a communication plan to ensure commitment to the strategies Developing an evaluation process to measure progress implementation progress

 

Outcome: Strategic plan in place and being implemented

 

COMMUNICATION

Tasks:

Research requirements
Gather information
Draft and edit text
Submit in the required format by the deadline

 

Outcome: Grant application completed and submitted

 

FACILITATION

Project:

 

Plan and facilitate a board development retreat

Tasks:

Collaborate with the chairman of the board and executive director to establish the goals of the retreat
Assist with establishing an appropriate time and location
Develop an outline and prepare materials
Assign leadership roles for the retreat
Lead and facilitate activities and discussion

 

Outcome: Board members gained a better understanding of the organization and their role in promoting its success; board members began to see themselves as a team.

 

TRAINING

Project:

 

Plan and conduct a workshop on fundraising for board members

 

Tasks:

Review and organize materials on the topic
Create an outline and present it to the chairman of the board and executive director for revision
Prepare materials
Lead and facilitate activities and discussion

 

Outcome: Board members gained an understanding of the basic concepts of fundraising and confidence in their ability to take an active role in meeting the financial goals of the organization
